Your portfolio assignment focuses on a specific sector of healthcare and its relation to the current U.S. healthcare system. Choose one of the healthcare sectors listed below for your portfolio assignment. Once you have identified a sector, you should then select a facility that is located in your geographic area that represents this sector

• Long-term care – Craig Hospital

After choosing one of the areas above, you will interview a healthcare manager within the sector you selected. This can be done in person, over the phone, or via online tools (email, Google Hangouts, Zoom, or Skype, for example). It may be helpful to record the interview session, with permission from the interviewee.

1. Select a manager from a healthcare sector listed above – See the zoom link for the interview. She received her BSN from the University of Denver in 1985, MBA from the University of Phoenix in 2001, and M.S. in Computer Information Systems from University of Phoenix in 2001. Diane received her Doctorate in Nursing – Executive Leadership from the American Sentinel University in 2013. Diane holds professional certification in Healthcare Finance and is Board certified in Rehabilitation Nursing and Executive Nursing. Diane has been in the field since 1982, and has been at Craig Hospital since 1990. She manages utilization of human, fiscal, and material resources allocated to nursing, food services, pharmacy, nursing education, patient/family education, infection control, Nurse Advice Line and quality departments. She continues to be active in local and national professional Boards of Directors.
2. Write a paper with 1-2 pages of specific interview information that was covered. Write 4 additional pages with detailed analysis related to the topics that were covered (for a total of 5-6 pages). The paper must contain answers/information pertaining to the following questions posed to the manager:

• How does politics/government involvement influence this sector and how it provides healthcare services?
• How do quality, safety, and competition within this healthcare sector impact patient care?
• What are the major challenges for this sector over the next decade? (Discuss a minimum of two challenges with the manager, then offer analysis on how healthcare leaders and administrators will manage them.)

Your paper should meet the following requirements:

• Include a cover and reference page.
• Provide support for your statements with in-text citations from a minimum of 5 scholarly references. Three of these references must be from outside sources and should be from peer reviewed or quality academic sources. The other two may be from course readings, lectures, and textbooks. Remember to list the individual you interviewed in the references. The CSU-Global Library is a good place to find these references.
