Slide 2: Welcome, everyone. I am honored to be leading this team in addressing the diversity issue at Lakeland Clinic. Our goal for this project is to create a more inclusive and equitable environment for both employees and the community. We know that patients from the community have been avoiding the clinic because they do not feel comfortable with the staff and that the staff lacks the ability to develop a trusting relationship with the residents, primarily because they do not understand the cultural values and norms. Our task is to understand the problem, gather data, and come up with sustainable solutions that will have a lasting impact on the clinic. We are committed to working together to achieve this goal by utilizing the skills and expertise of each of the team members. Our focus will be on open communication, collaboration and inclusivity. I look forward to working with all of you and making a positive impact on our clinic and community.

Slide 3: The goals for this meeting are to outline and set the project’s priorities and goals to address the diversity issue at Lakeland Clinic, define and communicate every member’s roles, present a plan that promotes interprofessional group collaboration, explain the characteristics and benefits of a diverse and inclusive workplace, and finally, present the benefits of promoting and supporting diversity in an organization

Slide 4: This team’s main shared goals will include fostering an atmosphere that is more diverse and inclusive for both the community and the workforce. Secondly, we will get to know the cultural values and customs of the population the clinic serves better. Thirdly, we will enhance the capacity of staff to build a relationship of trust with the community. And lastly, we will implement into practice long-term changes that will benefit the clinic. The first two goals are priority goals because achieving them will offset a cascade of activities that will ensure we achieve the third and fourth objectives. The fourth and fifth objectives are the ultimate goals that we will use to evaluate and monitor the team’s success in cultural sensitivity and diversity.

  • The first step, Leadership, will involve issuing shared calendars to ensure that team members are kept at par with the team schedule, regular team meetings to update the team and improve interventions, and a combination of the shared role and goals communication
  • The second step, research and evaluation will include conducting a root cause analysis of the diversity problem to understand underlying factors that the team needs to solve by the project’s end and performing benchmarking to observe the best cultures from a well-established institution that observes cultural competence

This plan includes various strategies that the team would execute collaborative through communication to achieve the shared goals. Evaluation after every step through effective communication will ensure the team is cohesive and every team member executes their role effectively. According to Schenk et al. (2022), this multicultural team is heterogeneous and includes members with different specializations and expertise in the hospital and community settings. Their contributory efforts through this plan will ensure culturally sensitive care for the minority.

Slide 7: here are some of the basic characteristics of a diverse and inclusive workplace

  • Firstly, the organization promotes an atmosphere of free dialogue and invites staff members to express their opinions.
  • Secondly, no matter what their history or traits are, every employee has the same chance to thrive, according to an article by Mullin et al. (2021).
  • Thirdly, policies and practices that promote diversity and inclusion, such as equal employment opportunity policies and diversity training programs, are in place at the organization. The employees and not subject to one-size-fits-all policies, according to an article by Khuntia et al. (2022)

  • Lastly, Staff members are from different cultures and backgrounds, according to Stanford (2020)

Slide 8: Promoting and supporting diversity in an organization has various benefits. Firstly, it leads to improved innovation and creativity through contributions from different perspectives. According to an article by Swartz et al. (2019), it enhances organizational flexibility by enabling adaptation to change. There are also higher job satisfaction rates among employees (Stanford, 2020) due to the feeling of mutual respect among workers. According to Schenk et al. Slide 9: In sum, I can say that promoting and supporting diversity and inclusion within an organization is essential for fostering a culture of respect, inclusivity, and innovation, leading to increased employee satisfaction, improved problem-solving and decision-making, greater market reach, and better reputation.

Assessment 3 Instructions: Diversity Project Kickoff Presentation
• PRINT
• Create a 6-8 slide presentation (with detailed speaker’s notes) on how you would select, foster collaboration among, and educate a team dedicated to solving a diversity issue.
Introduction
Assessments 2 and 3 are based on the same scenario, so you must complete them in the order in which they are presented.
Finding, organizing, and motivating teams is a key leadership skill as is the ability to communicate and present information.
Overview
In this assessment, you will continue your work from Assessment 2 by creating a 6–8 slide PowerPoint presentation for the diversity project kickoff meeting.
Preparation
• Review the Guidelines for Effective PowerPoint Presentations [PPTX] for guidelines and hints for an effective presentation.
• Review Using Kaltura if you are using this courseroom tool to record your presentation.
• Use the PowerPoint Template [PPTX] to complete this assessment.
Scenario
Imagine that your boss Lynnette follows up with you in an email shortly after reading your views on leadership and collaboration:
Hi,
Thanks for sending me your thoughts last week on the diversity issue at the clinic. Your next step is to select a team of professionals who can help you in this project and prepare an introduction of the project for a first meeting with them.
I want you to prepare a presentation to serve as a brief but substantive introduction for the first meeting with a group of 4–5 members who will participate on the committee tasked with addressing the diversity issue. Once I review more information about the proposed team I can help you with the recruitment. The presentation should be 5–7 minutes and use 6–8 slides with detailed speaker’s notes so I can understand your approach. Not a lot of time or space, so keep things pretty high level. Do the following:
4. Briefly outline the project goals and highlight 2–3 of the initial priorities to be addressed by the group. Also, explain why they are important.
5. Explain the composition of the team and why you chose them. Note that you will not know the exact individuals yet, but assume we will recruit the people with the desired qualities and characteristics you outline in the presentation. Consider the following:
