Health Psychology Discussion
Chapter 6’s checklist intends to discover if health psychology is a good fit for me. The checklist items that relate to me are:
Want to help people live healthier lives
Want to understand the effects of stress and lifestyle choices on health
Want to understand how the mind influences the body
I only checked off 3 of the 9 items on the checklist for a 33% match in the field of Health Psychology.
This is the lowest score I’ve received so far, but I’m not surprised because I haven’t shown any interest in the medical field or a medical setting. I did find a lot of interest in helping people to live healthier lives on their own, and to help them understand the effects of the stress they put on their bodies. I know that not all stress is self-inflicted, but at some point, we need to determine that stressors in our lives and what we can do to minimize them for our benefit. Again, I am very interested in the mind and how it influences what we do and how our body responds.

1. Interestingly enough I scored 100% , or I felt 9 out of 9 statements applied to me in the chapter checklist regarding Health Psychology.
2. Despite scoring 100% on the checklist I don’t find myself too interested in pursuing a career as a Health Psychologist. The reason I scored so high on it is because I find the information a health psychologist has useful personally. I do want to work in the medical field but I imagine myself more as a clinical psychologist in working in a hospital. I do want to better understand medical problems because its just interesting to know about the human body and illnesses in general. Conducting research sounds interesting but I feel I’m too impatient to tell myself I would dedicate my time to conducting research on one particular subject. I would like to help people live healthier lives, but I can also do that as a counselor or clinical psychologist. Who doesn’t want to understand the effects of stress on an individuals health? I absolutely want to know how the mind can influence the human body but more for personal use than anything else.
