Our journey has led us through critical professional issues impacting nursing practice and delving into the complexities surrounding policy-making and its impact on patient care. This reflective exercise serves more than just looking back at what we learned; it aims to identify those areas that resonated with me profoundly and, most crucially, how I intend to apply this newfound knowledge in my future educational endeavors and professional pursuits.

During the sessions, we extensively examined essential concerns, such as the healthcare obstacles confronting individuals with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease in North Carolina. We also emphasized the significance of policy models in addressing intricate healthcare matters and proposed strategies for advocating policy changes. I aim to highlight the valuable insights acquired through this exploration and establish a connection between theory and practice. To emphasize how education can transform nursing practices into more responsive, compassionate, and resilient ones. Each topic has profoundly influenced my understanding of nursing and healthcare while shaping my perspective and aspirations toward becoming an accomplished nursing professional. This transformative journey of discovery, reflection, and learning from favorite topics discussed throughout the semester will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in shaping my future capabilities.

It is essential to acknowledge the considerable incidence of workplace violence. Studies indicate that approximately 25% of nurses report physical assault, and 50% report verbal abuse (American Nurses Association, 2019). This violence encompasses various forms, such as oral and psychological abuse, physical attacks, and sexual harassment. Each kind has a distinct impact on nursing professionals’ morale, productivity, and overall welfare – shaping their professional journey and affecting patient care quality (Crawford et al., 2019). Given the severe consequences of these acts, it becomes imperative to take proactive measures to prevent violence and support victims in healthcare environments. Therefore, this discussion will explore a topic I am particularly passionate about this semester: “The Issue of Workplace Violence in the United States Nursing Profession.”

How I Will Use What I Learned to Enhance My Education

The study of workplace violence in nursing has unearthed essential details about nurses’ daily complex challenges. This knowledge has given me a deeper understanding of the issue and its multifaceted consequences. The quality of patient care is immensely affected by this issue (Noor, 2022). Indeed, nurses frequently encounter patients with mental or physical discomfort (Hossain & Clatty, 2020), and they often suffer from it. I am motivated to explore research focused on effective interventions and preventive strategies that can effectively address this problem. As reiterated by the American Nurses Association (2019), nurses should learn de-escalation strategies and report all workplace violence. Comprehensive insight into the underlying dynamics will sharpen my critical thinking abilities and problem-solving aptitude. Consequently, this will better prepare me for real-life situations by bridging theory with practical application, enhancing my educational experience.

The knowledge I have gained will be precious in guiding my active participation in class discussions and projects, especially those about healthcare management and nursing leadership. This acquired knowledge allows me to offer a practical viewpoint on the theoretical concepts taught in class, resulting in more comprehensive discussions and enhanced comprehension. It has the potential to foster a dynamic learning atmosphere for both myself and my classmates as we share our unique experiences and perspectives, exchanging ideas that are enriched by our diverse understandings.

I intend to leverage my knowledge of workplace violence in nursing through various academic channels. By organizing and leading seminars on this topic, I can establish a platform where fellow students and educators can collectively delve into, analyze, and challenge this issue. Engaging in extensive research writing will enhance my understanding while also enabling me to offer fresh perspectives in this crucial area of study. By creating project proposals to tackle workplace violence head-on, I have an opportunity for hands-on application of my learning and potentially contributing interventions that could be implemented within real healthcare environments. Ultimately, the knowledge will serve as a fundamental element, shaping how I perceive situations, guiding my choices, and preparing me to participate in healthcare policy discussions actively.

To further safeguard myself and fellow professionals, I plan to partake in ongoing learning opportunities and training courses centered around de-escalating volatile situations and managing conflicts successfully.

Expanding upon my newly acquired knowledge of workplace violence in nursing, I am determined to cultivate critical skills to elevate my professional ability. I aim to enhance my communication strategies by prioritizing clarity and empathy, enabling me to navigate complicated patient interactions effectively (Yao et al., 2020). Moreover, I intend to dedicate myself to improving my conflict resolution aptitude, allowing me the capability to defuse tense situations proficiently and foster an environment of safety within the workplace. Recognizing the significance of emotional resilience when confronting adversity head-on; is imperative for maintaining personal well-being while consistently delivering exceptional patient care amidst workplace violence.

Conclusion

After carefully exploring the issue of workplace violence within the nursing profession, I have expanded my comprehension of the obstacles that nurses encounter. As I embark on a healthcare career, I am better equipped and committed to being part of the solution. I sincerely believe that gaining awareness on this subject, pushing for change, and taking proactive actions can create a safer and healthier work atmosphere conducive to providing the best possible patient care, although this challenge could seem overwhelming. My eyes have been opened to fresh perspectives and opportunities by this experience. I greatly anticipate continuing my professional education since it will enable me to impact patient outcomes and progress nursing positively. Reflecting on this experience, I understand the value of ongoing education and adaptability in nursing. It has become clear that these elements form the basis for developing into a capable and sympathetic caregiver. As I move forward in my career, I bring with me a wealth of skills and experience and a steadfast commitment to being a catalyst for change in my industry. I aim to take proactive steps against workplace violence while actively contributing towards fostering a safe and respectful culture within healthcare.
