Professional Presence Presentation Narrative Paper

Hello, my name is. Welcome to today’s presentation, and the focus is on professionalism. The field of interest is nursing. This presentation explores my personal skills and attributes, professional presence, and how I demonstrated professionalism in my career and program. It also explores the various strategies that will help promote professionals in future practice

Rubio-Navarro et al. (2019) state that reliability is the professional aspect of being consistent and trustworthy. I perform my duties constantly without fail and ensure that I perform any roles given to me. Rubio-Navarro et al. (2019) state that accountability is the act of taking responsibility for roles delegated. I am also accountable and take responsibility for mistakes that I make. I am quick to accept correction and ensure that I also take responsibility for mistakes made by my team for which I am responsible. Apore and Asamoah (2019) note that self-awareness and self-regulation are essential in developing and evaluating emotional intelligence. I am aware of my emotions and can control them to ensure they do not affect my judgment or interaction with other professionals. Nayak (2018) noes that time management is the ability to use time effectively and productively. I manage my personal time and time at the workplace to ensure I fulfill all my roles and meet all my client’s needs. Respect for others refers to an individual’s capacity to esteem and honor others, including healthcare providers and patients (Apore & Asamoah (2019)). I ensure that my actions and activities do not harm patients or other healthcare providers p4hysically or psychologically

Critical and creative thinking are essential for any nurse. Akpur (2020) states that critical thinking is the ability to analyze intellectual processes by conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating information actively and skillfully. I can analyze problems and processes skillfully to determine areas that require improvement and employ my creativity skills to implement change. Klein and Crandall (202018) state that problem-solving is the ability to develop solutions to problems hindering the achievement of a goal. At the same time, decision-making entails making the right course of action among alternative options. I create practical solutions to problems such as patient deterioration or poor patient collaboration that arise in care delivery. I can weigh options and choose the best among the available options, considering resources such as financial and time implications. Effective communication is a prerequisite for all nurses and ensures timely passage of correct information to involved parties. I ensure I chose the right choice and counter-check information to ensure it is accurate and culturally sensitive

Professional presence is the aspect that distinguishes individuals and their professions. Drake (2019) notes that it requires individuals to demonstrate respect, confidence, passion, integrity, empathy, and optimism. It goes beyond uniform to include how we perform our roles. Drake (2019) also notes that to portray professional presence, one must act in accordance with the professional expectations and perform roles within the scope of practice of the profession. It requires the professional’s presence to be felt by performing the tasks they ought to. Professional presence is demonstrated when professionals act in accordance with their profession’s values while respecting other disciplines. Strict adherence to professional guidelines, standards, and ethical codes is vital.

Scholars note that nurses portray professional presence when they exhibit self-confidence, ability to handle uncertainty, honesty, integrity, passion, and empathy (Drake, 2019). During practice, I demonstrated professionalism by prioritizing patient care quality and safety needs. I ensured patients were comfortable and safe from health issues by regularly assessing and reviewing their care modalities. I collaborated with other healthcare providers to assess patients, diagnose them, and provide individualized care to these patients. I also participated in solving different nurse-other care provider, nurse-nurse, and nurse-patient conflicts effectively. I initiated and participated in quality improvement projects that created better workplace conditions and quality care delivery and promoted patient safety. Ensuring a professional look by putting on nurses’ uniforms and a name tag was also a priority. These activities demonstrated professionalism at the workplace.

While navigating the program, I demonstrated self-discipline in completing the assigned tasks, ranging from classes, reading materials, and clinical practice experiences. Completing these tasks on time helped me portray professionalism. Various stakeholders in learning include educators, clinical instructors, patients, and peers. Maintaining respectful relationships with these stakeholders helped me develop working relationships that helped me achieve goals and objectives of learning. Nursing education can be challenging when balancing activities, assignments, and study, and maintaining a positive attitude towards the profession and professionals helped me demonstrate professionalism as a nursing student. I also wore appropriately when attending classes. Physical appearance in a well-groomed state is a prerequisite for professionalism.

Butina (2018) states that one effective strategy for improving professionalism is engaging in continuing education. Enrolling in education programs and participating in continuing education at the workplace increases professionalism. Learning enhances knowledge in professionals and will progressively improve my professionalism. I will also ensure I understand the objectives of any program or task before performing it to ensure my actions help meet these objectives. Time is an essential aspect of professionalism. I will prepare routines for tasks and plan ahead to ensure punctual activities such as patient care, personal assignments, and workplace arrival time. An individual must understand themselves for their optimum performance. Forouzadeh et al. (2018) note that understanding the professional identity is important and will help me understand all the values, ethics, standards, code of conduct, and professional presence that will help gradually improve professionalism. Bashir and McTaggart (2022) show that role modeling helps in practicing and retaining professionalism skills.

Understanding oneself and the profession helps an individual plan for personal and professional improvement. Maintaining professionalism in the future is paramount; continuing education, role modeling, punctuality, and attention to detail will help maintain professionalism. Professional conduct is the backbone of effective professional practice; thus, it is required for a successful career.

4 Instructions: Professional Presence Presentation

PRINT

Create and record a professional presentation sharing your accomplishment and your plans for continuing your skill development.
Introduction
Imagine you have a coworker named George. He is smart and hardworking and always completes his tasks on time. But George isn’t friendly. He never makes small talk in the office, never smiles nor says hello. George is quick to pick a fight over a small detail. He openly tells people that he doesn’t like their work and that he could do a better job. He goes to the boss with the smallest complaint, takes credit for others’ ideas, and does not take the time to listen to what others have to say. Even though George is good at his job, would you want to keep working with him? Do you think he is likely to be promoted or form strong connections with his coworkers or clients? Do you think his team members would volunteer to write him glowing recommendations for another job in the future? Probably not.
When it comes to your world of work, being good at what you do is only half the battle. You also must be able to connect to and work effectively with others. This is called relationship building, and it’s an essential skill for professional success. The workplace is made up of many different people from all walks of life, and practicing your relationship building skill will help you create bonds that can not only bolster your job performance but also catapult you to new opportunities in the future.
Let’s look at how the relationship building skill helps people with different backgrounds and levels of expertise come together. Practicing your relationship building skill throughout your life and career will allow you to exchange ideas and develop solutions in the modern workplace.
